Privacy Policy
Short version: EmojiBase is a static website. We do not collect personal data, require sign-up, or track individual users. The only data processed is standard web server logs (IP, request paths) which are never sold or shared.
1. Information We Collect
EmojiBase is a static-generated website served via Cloudflare Pages. We collect minimal information:
- Server logs: Standard web server access logs including IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. These are retained by our hosting provider (Cloudflare) for security purposes only.
- Contact form data: If you use our contact form, any data you submit is sent directly to our email address via your mail client. We do not store form submissions on our servers.
- Local storage: We may store your emoji preferences (e.g., recently viewed emojis, copy history) in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.
We do not collect: names, email addresses (unless you voluntarily contact us), payment information, or any personally identifiable information through normal use of the site.
2. How We Use Information
Any information we collect is used solely to:
- Operate and maintain the website (server logs for security and uptime monitoring)
- Respond to contact enquiries you initiate
- Improve page performance and fix technical issues
We do not use your data for advertising targeting, profiling, or any form of automated decision-making.
3. Cookies & Local Storage
Cookies: EmojiBase does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. We do not set any first-party tracking cookies.
LocalStorage: We use the browser's localStorage API (not cookies) to store your preferences entirely on your device — such as recently viewed emojis and copy history. This data:
- Is stored only on your device
- Is never transmitted to our servers
- Can be cleared at any time via your browser settings (Settings → Privacy → Clear site data)
Third-party cookies: If you have Google AdSense ads enabled on this site (in the future), those may set cookies subject to Google's own privacy policy.
4. Third-Party Services
EmojiBase uses the following third-party infrastructure:
- Cloudflare Pages — Website hosting and CDN. Subject to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — Typography. May log font request metadata. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not use advertising networks, social login providers, or data brokers. We do not sell data to any third parties.
5. Analytics
We currently use Cloudflare Web Analytics — a privacy-first, cookieless analytics service that does not track individual users, use fingerprinting, or share data with third parties. Cloudflare Web Analytics provides aggregate page view counts only.
We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any behavioural tracking tools.
6. Children's Privacy
EmojiBase is a general-audience website. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at hello@emojibase.pages.dev and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to object: Object to processing of your personal data.
- Right to portability: Receive your data in a portable format.
- Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
Because we collect minimal data, most of these rights can be exercised by simply clearing your browser's localStorage. For any data held in server logs, contact us at hello@emojibase.pages.dev.
EU/EEA residents may also lodge a complaint with their national Data Protection Authority.
8. Data Retention
We retain data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy:
- Server logs: Retained by Cloudflare for up to 30 days for security purposes.
- Contact emails: Retained for as long as the email correspondence is active or legally required.
- LocalStorage data: Retained on your device until you clear it. We have no access to it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Continued use of EmojiBase after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
